NLP was born from a desire to model excellence. It was developed as a methodology to be able to define the difference that makes the difference and creates successful people. This could be success how ever you choose to define it, whether success at business, parenting or just a small activity such as consistently making a good cup of tea. This article is about finding NLP Training Courses that train you to look at models of excellence and be able to take the essential elements to install in yourself and in others.

Whilst NLP started as a methodology for modelling excellence because of the wealth of tools and techniques that were created NLP quickly became seen as a collection of random tools and techniques. This has permeated in to a lot of NLP Training Courses. Now many NLP Practitioner Training Courses do not look at the subject of modelling at all, leaving this for the Master Practitioner Course. This would be similar to learning to play tennis but not being allowed a tennis racquet until you have mastered all your basic strokes.

One of the reasons that modelling is being left out of the NLP Practitioner syllabus is because some NLP Trainers see it as a complex subject. The reality is that it is a simple subject that can be taken to levels of complexity depending on how far you need to take it.

Here is an example of various levels of modelling. Let us say you have found an exceptionally good sales professional and you want to model this person to be able to replicate their results. You might start by examining the person’s behaviour and finding out what element of what they are doing and in what context creates the result. After examining what they do and how they do it you might come to a conclusion that they are doing the same as everyone else but they ask for the business more often and therefore get more sales.

You might think that this is the answer, but then on closer examination you realise that it is not just that they ask for the business but also they way that they ask that makes the difference. Knowing all this you might just train the rest of your sales staff in this particular way of closing and get them to do it more often. This would be a simple level of modelling, a powerful NLP Technique.

You could get more complex levels by looking at the sales professional’s beliefs, what happens in their mind to drive them towards creating these results and values. You could take the strategy you found apply it to other areas. You could also take various strategies from other areas and combine them creating many different levels of strategies.

Some NLP Practitioner Courses take a different track and start the delegates modelling excellence right from the start. For example the 2008 Accelerated Success NLP Practitioner Course from The NLP Company has two models of excellence for the delegates to practice their new found skills on.

When looking for a NLP Practitioner Course make sure that you are getting the content you deserve. If all you need are a few tools and techniques then many courses will give you that easily. You will have to look a little more closely if you want a course where you become self sufficient in terms of your development and have all the methodology to be able to create success in any endeavour.
